Emerging trends in internal combustion engines aims to reduce fuel consumption and also lower exhaust gas emissions. The aim of this special issue is to bring all topics and all the scientific / technological approaches in recent trends in internal combustion engines. Current technologies in CI engine does not withstand BS-VI emission norms, so the only way is to go for alternate combustion technology, after treatment technologies and search for alternate power sources. The advance combustion technologies like HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition), PCCI (Partial /Premixed Charge Compression Ignition), RCCI (Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition) and GDCI (Gasoline Direct Injection Compression Ignition) are the prominent technologies to reduce the NOx and soot emissions and increase the efficiency of the engine. These technologies are in associated with the certain after treatment methods like SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction), Diesel and Gasoline Particulate Filters, Oxidation Catalysts, etc. After treatment technologies are greatly helps to reduce the exhaust engine emissions from the automobiles. Naturally aspirated engines lack power due to incomplete combustion of fuel and thereby low fuel efficiency. The function of the supercharger / turbocharger is to increase the quantity & density of the air supplied to the engine. As the air is compressed by a turbocharger / supercharger it provides denser, oxygen rich air to the engine, allowing fuel to be burned completely, thus improving combustion and giving more power. Some in cylinder emission controlled techniques like EGR and Water injection helps to reduce the NOx and particulate matter emission from the engine.
The focus has ranged from feed stock optimization to engineout emissions, performance and durability. Biofuels for transportation sector, including alcohols (ethanol, methanol...etc.), biodiesel, and other liquid and gaseous fuels such as methane, hydrogen and DME have the potential to displace a considerable amount of petroleum-based fuels around the world.
This seminar on “Emerging trends in internal combustion engine technologies for enhancing the performance and reducing the emission in automobiles” will give the participants to enrich their knowledge about latest technologies in IC engine. At the end of the session they will acquire knowledge in combustion technologies, after treatment techniques, alternate fuels, in cylinder treatment and necessity of turbocharger/supercharger.
